So What?’s music video, the first one made from the Kill the Human Being album, was created in a collaborative mode. Me and Chris decided to talk about a story that’d be the base for the video.
First of all, we thought about shooting the video on the street. For that, we’d need people willing to be recorded. Besides, shooting a video on the street is way more complicated than it seems: you need to know which place will be secure enough for the work to be done, avoiding major problems.
These complications made me and Chris think about a different option. That means a simpler idea, that wouldn’t depend on anyone else besides us to be done. Then, we decided to record the scenes at home, in different spots of the house.
The new idea was conceived after some analysis and discussions. We came to the conclusion that it’d be nice to record the different steps of a person that realizes he was kidnapped: the understanding of what happened, the attempt of letting go of what’s holding him back and getting away from there.
First, Chris recorded the early stages of the day becoming morning, which takes awhile and you must wake up early to do so. With that part done, we went to the second step, which was filming the kidnapped person, waking up and analyzing his situation, trying to get away from that strange place. Chris became the actor and I shot the scenes in just one night. Make-up, illumination work and lots of falling down later, we thought we had enough material for editing.
Chris decided to edit the material as soon as we stopped recording. What seemed enough, wasn’t really. Now, we were looking for new scenes to add at the already made editing. It was very late, so we decided to record on the next day, but Chris still managed to get scenes from TV and pictures to put in the video. That also serves as a test for the viewers’ minds, to see if they can identify every single extra scene on the video! If you know the answers, send an e-mail to promocao@jimicrowley.net. The first one who sends the correct answers will get an exclusive award from Jimi Crowley.
In the next day, we thought about what we could do to finish the video. We decided to use another actor for the final scenes, since we wanted to shoot the kidnapper preparing himself for “one more day of work”. There’s a surprise in the end, which I won’t talk about here. I’ll let the video speak for itself. So, watch the music video made for the song “So What?”!
